Question : what is the syntax of niping command?

Answer : to get an idea of using niping command you can type niping without parameter.

Niping

This article is to answer guest question about using niping. Thanks to vinvk for the question.
Niping is a testing program developed by SAP to enhance TCP/IP and UDP layer function. Network Interface (NI) is used by SAPRouter and all SAP programs to provide independency of various communication. The enhanced TCP/IP and UDP Protocol is called SAP Protocol which provide one field length more and error information. This program simply send request to the server, then read the reply from server. Niping mostly uses to test connection to SAP server with or without SAP Router. Niping also provides enhancement communication through the firewall or proxy server.

Niping syntax

Example niping command (with or without SAProuter),
host1 : saprouter -r //start saprouter in host1
host2 : niping -s //this will emulate a test server
host3 : niping -c -H host2 //this will test connection to host2 without SAProuter
host3 : niping -c -H /H/host1/H/host2 //this will test connection to host2 with SAProuter

niping -t //this is for self test which will display a result *** SELFTEST O.K. *** if connection OK

Finally, I’m able to run VMWare on my Notebook. I knew this software for long time, but for VMWare Server I’ve just installed it last night. Well, I encountered some problem with this installation, started with creating bootable Windows Server 2003 cd, then VMWare cannot detect my guest OS Win Server 2003 x64 bit. If you face this issue, may be solution below will help you.

Creating Bootable Win Server 2003 CD

The requirement is you have copy of the original CD, and software ImgBurn which can be downloaded free on this link. >> Download ImgBurn 2.4.2.0 >> . This burning software made us easy to create bootable OS CD/DVD. If you’re interested I can share to you. For bootable ISO files, you need to attached bootable Image of the OS. The summary steps are :

Open ImgBurn

Choose menu Mode -> Build

Add directory source.

Tab Options, Fill File System : ISO9660 + Juliet

Tab Labels, fill in the disc labels, for Win Server 2003 information can be found here.

Tab Advanced, fill as picture below.

Then Build to your CD/DVD.

Unable to boot guest OS Win Server 2003 x64

This is a little bit tricky solution. If you boot your guest OS 64 bit on 32 bit machine you see this error :

Attempting to load an x64 operating system, however this CPU is not compatible with x64 mode. Please install a 32-bin X86 operating system.

To solve this, you need to check that your BIOS supporting Virtualization Technology. This VT feature can be enabled in your BIOS Setting. To enter BIOS setup, Press F10 just after your PC start booting. VMWare provides the software to check your system compatibility to run guest OS 64 bit. You can dowload the software here. For further detail information, you can visit vmware KB Article 1003945.

In some case, this picture is shown when you try to open service in cluster -> server -> service (for example SLD Data Supplier)

SLD Data Supplier error

If you open OSS Notes 1017526, you can only find general cause which somehow a little bit confusing, which state : For SAP J2EE Engine SP15 (NW04), add the Java option “-DP4ClassLoad=P4Connection” in the “go” script and make sure the J2EE Application “com.sap.engine.class.download” is started .

To solve this problem you need to copy sldserv.jar file from /usr/sap/<SID>/<InstID>/j2ee/cluster/server<x>/bin/services/sld/ to usr/sap/<SID>/<InstID>/j2ee/admin/lib/

You may try to look for the other services under /bin/services folder and move it to admin/lib. good luck.

It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.
(wikipedia)

Usage: vncserver [] [:]
vncserver -kill :
These are few examples how to start and stop VNC Server on Linux Suse9,
start : vncserver :5
stop : vncserver -kill :5

Then you can use the VNC Client to connect to the server. You can download from Real VNC or Tight VNC.

Can you imagine if you have a job to monitor the whole SAP system and also non SAP system? Okay, let’s say that you only have 3 system landscapes, that would be very easy to monitor, check the system one by one. But if you have hundreds of systems, how will you manage the system monitoring? Before we continue to the basic concept for system monitoring, we should answer this question: Why do we need to monitor SAP system? For some of you may be that’s a silly question, but for this little question will save your a lot of effort to monitor the system both SAP or non SAP.

The picture above explain the architecture for Central Monitoring. It means we have one system as a central system to maintain all connected agent, which later we call it CCMS Agent. Btw, What does CCMS stands for ? CCMS is Computing Center Management System. Basically, we can use transaction code :

RZ20 : Display CCMS architecture as an alert monitor.

RZ21 : To set the global customizing setting for the alert monitor.

We have several functional principles of the CCMS Agent which are:

SAPCCMSR. This agent monitors components on which there’s no active SAP instance (such as log files, TREX, stand-alone database or operating system components. Now, SAPCCMSR has extended j2ee options to monitor J2EE Engine.

SAPCCM4X. This agent improves the monitoring of ABAP instance with SAP Basis 4.x or higher. The central monitoring system must have a release status of at least SAP Basis 4.6C. that’s why this is called 4X.

SAPCM3X. This agent allow the monitoring of SAP Instance with SAP basis 3.x through the CCMS monioring architecture.

Now, here’s the quick steps to intall and operate remote CCMS Agent:

You have central monitoring system (CEN). Create CSMREG user in CEN using SU01.

Generate file CSMCONF file in CEN before agent registration. In CEN, call transaction RZ21 and choose Technical Infrastructure -> Configure Central System -> Create CSMCONF Start File for Agents.

Download executable CCMS Agent.

Installing an Agent. For example we want to install agent on ABAP instance. For Windows: [drive]:\usr\sap\<SysID>\SYS\exe\run\sapccm4x -R pf=<profile path>
For UNIX: /usr/sap/<SysID>/SYS/exe/run/sapccm4x -R pf=<profile path>

During the registration, the system displays specifications from the CSMCONF to you again for confirmation. Confirm the specifications by pressing the ENTER key in each case. You only need to enter two parameters yourself:

The password for the administration user in CEN, under which you created the CSMCONF file.

The password for the CSMREG user.

That’s it. simple isn’t it? After you register the agent, after few seconds or may be in minutes you will see the agent status on CEN. Of course this is just a little part for CCMS System monitoring. You can download the full information for SAP System Monitoring using CCMS on the link below. By understanding the concept of this reference, I think you will be a CCMS expert. Enjoy !

SAP ITS switches between Internet protocols and formats (such as HTTP, HTTPS, and HTML). Before SAP Web AS 6.40, ITS component is not integrated with SAP Web AS.

This is the procedure to activate HTTPS configuration in your stand alone ITS 6.20:
-Go to http://<ITShostname.com>:1080/scripts/wgate/wgate-config/!
-choose the ITS instance.
-Go to ‘Matching URLs’ and click ‘add’.
-Change line like : http xxxx 9999 /scripts/wgate ADM yes no
to : https _default_ 443 /scripts/wgate ADM yes yes
-Click ‘Activate new configuration’.

This is the issue solved with unexpected solution that I didn’t imagine before. Have you ever experienced the hanging work process with most all status in ENQ but it seems no queue process or locked (SM13 and SM14 works properly) in the system? Even when you restart the dialog instance, they still come up with the same status. If you see in the MMC, it looks like this :

So based on SAP OSS Notes 1131092, you can restart the ENQ work process, and it recommends you to add more ENQ work process, 3 is enough. This error might be caused by a long running/a lot of processes using this ENQ work process. I said ‘might’ because this cant be explained also by SAP. You may try this solution since those stucked work process with status ENQ cant be stopped from MMC, also from dpmon program.
